Christa - The Artist

Here's Christa - the artist - taken ~ March 2008, still wearing one of her favorite painting jackets and draped with many of her favorite bright colors.

Some background information

This page from The Washington Post contains a short note with the photograph giving a little background information on Christa. This was after she had turned her hand to real estate for a while (as the art market cooled for her during the 1980's), and then returned to primary loves - art, knowledge, travel, and more painting.

Purpose of this blogsite

This site is an introduction gateway to the fine art by Christa. Christa Kabitz Sommer began her early career in Germany, with classical training, winning awards in exhibitions and painting portraits on commission. She continued to paint on commission in Germany and after moving to the United States in the early 1950's.

Christa's work expanded to landscapes, still lifes, and abstract works in the 1960's through the 1980's, while continuing to paint people on commission and for artistic interest.

Many of Christa's paintings reside in private collections and a few museums. Other works remain available in reserve kept by her and her family. It's from this personal reserve that most of the paintings shown on this site were photographed. Christa retains copyright in the paintings. Inquiries are handled on an individual basis.
